The Body Shop Metrocentre Event

I’ve been blogging now for almost exactly a year and I still have never been to a bloggers event. It seems like most are based super far away from me and being cruelty free sometimes does limit the kind of events I can even go to (lets not get started on the fact that being the awkward vegan in the room doesn’t help either). All of this changed last week though when I stumbled onto an open invite to The Body Shop in the Metrocentre for a bloggers drop in to check out their new ranges.

If you’ve followed me for a while you’ll know I’m having a bit of a cruelty-free identity crisis recently regarding whether or not I even want to be using cosmetics by brands owned by parent companies, and I was really debating whether to go until the lovely Nadia pointed out that even places like Superdrug are parent owned (I actually didn’t know this). After some research I also realised that The Body Shop actually have a really huge list of vegan friendly products which I’m always happy to support in a brand. This is all for another post anyway, but just to point out that while The Body Shop’s UK site doesn’t specify vegan products, there are published list and their international sites often do have a (V) for vegan on their product pages (hop to it, UK!).

The lovely girls in store were offering up hand massages with their British Rose range which smells beautiful even though I’m not especially a floral kinda girl, as well as facials with a new range of your choice and makeovers. I chose the Oils of Life range for my facial because it smells incredible (can you tell I’m lead by scent?) and also because it seemed more aimed at my skin type.

Once I moved past the fact I had someone rubbing my face in a public place it was actually incredibly relaxing, and I got to test almost the whole new range – although I left out the oil as once my face is oiled nothing will stay on it. I did get an adorable little sample bottle to try at home though.

Anyone who went left with goodie bags which were absolutely packed with samples a full size bottle of the Oils Of Life Essence Lotion – an oil in water solution designed to fill in the place of toner in your skin care routine. It’s packed with Rosehip, Camelia and cumin oil giving it a gorgeously sweet-spicy scent while being gloriously hydrating rather than stripping the skin the way some toners do. I’ve been using this every day since the event and have definitely noticed how smooth my skin is since using it.

While I was there I also had a list of things to pick up: during my facial I was reminded of exactly how much I adore the Camomile Eye Make Up Remover (V) and had to get myself another bottle. It’s a bi-phase make up remover which is a perfect first step for getting rid of stubborn eye makeup without the stinging, but is also fab for getting off super intense lipsticks (hello Sleek’s Matte Me – I see you).

There was a 3-for-2 offer on skincare which meant I also picked up a bottle of the Vitamin E serum-in-oil (V), a product I’ve been dying to try for ages now, and a bottle of the Aloe Soothing Cleanser (V) which I find particularly nice in mornings. Is there any point in shopping if you’re not on the 3-for-2?

I also grabbed the Argan Radiance Oil (V)  as I love a good body oil, this stuff smells fab and while it personally doesn’t work well with my hair, it absorbs super quickly and is lovely to slather yourself in after a bath or shower.

While I am still torn personally on parent companies I would definitely recommend The Body Shop to anyone looking to pick up cruelty free (or vegan) products on the high street. They’re definitely a more mid-range option but so many of their products feel like pure luxury, and as someone who has shopped there for years I can definitely vouch for their effectiveness and longevity.

Thank you so much to the lovely ladies in The Body Shop for such a fab afternoon! I hope there’s many more to come.

The Oils of Life range has a handful of vegan friendly products including:

  • Intensely Revitalising Bi Phase Essence Lotion
  • Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil
  • Intensely Revitalising Cream
  • Intensely Revitalisin Gel Cream

Have you given the new ranges a go yet?

The Body Shop Metrocentre has a brand new Facebook page where you can keep up with all their new releases and events.

    1. That’s what I think! It’s possible I might change my mind in a month or three but for now so long as I can talk about them also stocking vegan products I think I’m okay with it.

    1. I don’t think many people knew about it! It was a drop in session so I didn’t see many other bloggers either but hopefully there’ll be some more soon!xx

  1. Aww so glad you had a good time in the end! It sounds like you tried some lovely products. Like I said, our ethics are always evolving and there is a really strong case for supporting change from within. I hadn’t considered that TBS might have a number of vegan products for some reason…good to know! Xx

    1. I’m really not sure why I’d never considered that they might have some vegan products either but the list is actually fairly extensive! That was really what swung it for me, I’m really trying to turn my blog into a resource for people and I’d rather see people buy from parent owned companies that include no testing or animal products than other companies. I might change my mind in future but for now I think I’m okay with it. xx
